What is it?
An escape room is a fun filled activity for teams to race the clock solving puzzles and unlocking clues. As tasks are completed your mission unfolds and the game progresses.
Where is it?
We are located at 116 S Franklin Street , Kirksville, MO. We are on the downtown square near Pagliai's pizza. We are within walking distance of Truman State and ATSU. Thousand Hills State park is a short 15 minute drive away.
Who does this?
Families, friends, co-workers, team mates, room mates, scouts, etc. The list goes on and on. If you have a group of people that like to have fun, this is for you! Children are welcome! Players under the age of 14 require a paying adult to be in the room with them at all times.
Planning Your Trip
To guarantee that you get the game and time slot that you want, we highly recommend reserving your game through our website. One person can make the reservation for the entire group, or each player can complete their own reservation. Check "private event" if you don't want others joining your group.
What to bring
No special equipment is needed. Just bring your teamwork and communication. All of your personal items go into the room with you, including cell phones. Hooks are available inside the rooms. Please no food or drinks. There are no online tickets to print off just tell us the name of your reservation.
Parking is FREE! Street parking is available on the downtown square and in front of our building. Parking lots are also available. You can park for free behind Maxwell's, behind Princess Emporium, or across the street from the Police Department.
Tips for a Great Game
No Experience Needed
If this is your first escape adventure, no need to fret! We have first time players every week and you could be next. One misconception is that we are for Trivia Junkies and A+ students. They are more than welcome but prior knowledge doesn't help you in the room. Cooperation and communication are the keys to success.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled game time. During this extra time, our staff will introduce you to locks you will find during your game and answer any questions. You will be asked to sign a waiver of liability. Arriving early also ensures that your game starts on time. You don't want to loose any precious minutes!
Our staff are referred to as "Game Masters" and one of them, sometimes two, will be assigned to your game. They can offer you clues and helpful hints along the way. Ask for a clue when your team feels stuck. Our game masters will know just what to say to point you in the right direction. Sometimes they will ask you a question. They often know the answer. They are prodding you towards something or facilitating communication.
Safety is our priority
General Rules and Choices
Our two main safety rules are (1) don't play with electrical outlets and (2) don't climb on top of or forcibly lift furniture.
The main reason for our liability waiver is choice. We can't control how someone may choose to use our space or props. You will never be asked to do something unsafe in our escape rooms. If our game master sees you attempting something that might harm you (such as climbing on furniture) they will ask you to stop. Otherwise, escape rooms are very safe!
Unlocked and Not Scary
Another misconception is that you will be locked in the room. No way! That breaks all basic fire codes. You are free to enter and exit the room at any time. We also do not do anything to attempt to scare you. No handcuffs, no blindfolds, no clowns... just no.
Children in Escape Rooms
We are a family friendly facility. All of our games are content appropriate for children. Children ages 8 and up have a great time unlocking the locks and finding clues.
We require at least one paying adult to be in the room if anyone in the group is under the age of 14. This isn't because our rooms are dangerous, but because our staff are not trained to handle all of the choices your child might make in the room.
For the experienced gamer
If you've played a few escape games, you know that no two venues are exactly alike. These Q & A's are for you!
We don't buy our games from a franchise or turn-key company and we don't design our games in-house. All 3 of our games have been designed and played elsewhere. We've modified the games to fit our space and add a bit of personal flair. Otherwise, all of our designs proved themselves before coming to our location. You may have played Miss Pearl's Parlour in Canada or The Study in the UK. The only design from close to home is Area 51.
Level of Tech / Gen 1-2-3
The labeling of escape rooms as Generation 1, 2, or 3 is a heated debate among gamers. We won't go that far, but we will describe what we've got.
Miss Pearl's Parlour has zero tech elements. It is all lock and key based. The Study has a bit of tech to help with some surprises. Area 51 is our most techy room with Raspberry Pi's, mag-locks, and keypads. Area 51 has a mag-lock on the door, our other 2 rooms do not. We haven't ventured into RFIDs yet.
All 3 of our rooms use the same clue delivery system. Audio and video surveillance is set up in each room so our game masters can see and hear you as you progress through the game. Clues are given in a text format on a TV on the wall. A "ding" is given when you have a new message. If you don't want help along the way, please let our staff know. They are used to helping new players and like to give nudges in the right direction.
